Pride Foundation and Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) Scholarship Fund Application Opens October 11, 2015!

This year, over $700,000 is available in scholarships to support the educational and leadership development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) students; students who have LGBTQ parent(s); and/or students who are allies and are committed to civil rights for the LGBTQ community in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington. Scholarships are available to students of any age- who are pursuing any kind of post-secondary education (including community college, public or private colleges & universities, trade schools/apprenticeships, or certificate programs). There are fifty different types of scholarships with awards up to $20,000, but only one web-based application to complete!

Applications can be found here at: http://www.pridefoundation.org/what-we-do/scholarships/ starting October 11th, and are due by 5:00 p.m. PST on January 11, 2016.

Heads-up!  Know these important dates so you aren’t dropped from your classes due to non-payment:

  • If you register between 8/24 and 9/9 tuition is due September 10th.
  • If you register between 9/10 and 9/16, tuition is due September 17th
  • For registration from 9/17 to 9/21, tuition is due September 21st.
  • Any registration on or after September 21st, tuition will be due the same day as registration.

Catch the First Whatcom Wave!

Join us from 9am to 1pm in Syre Student Center for the first Whatcom Wave of fall quarter! In one half-day, you will learn about the wealth of resources and services available to you, like financial aid, advising, student clubs, campus activities, and more. Students attending the new student orientation will also have the opportunity to meet other WCC students, instructors, and staff and get to know the campus before the first day of classes. Bring a friend and catch the wave!

WCC’s Fall Cybersecurity Camp For High Schoolers

Applications are now being accepted for Whatcom Community College’s fall 2015 Cybersecurity Camp. The six-session camp is for high school juniors and seniors who want to explore cybersecurity, a rapidly growing, high-demand field in the U.S. and worldwide. Students will learn through hands-on computer activities how cybersecurity professionals help protect information and information systems from unauthorized access, misuse and destruction. The camp culminates with participation in the CyberPatriot competition, a National Youth Cyber Defense competition. Top teams in the nation will earn all-expense paid trips to Baltimore, Md., for the April 2016 finals competition where they could earn scholarships.
